The first on our list is remote keys. They are the first type of smart key that flooded the market with their great features. The primary selling advantage of remote keys is the ability to unlock car doors without physical contact. A remote key can unlock and lock car doors with just a push of a button when nearby. These remote keys are designed with radio transmitters that send a signal to the car when it is nearby, about 5 to 10 meters. If the signal has the same configuration as the car, the door locks or unlocks.
The action is often accompanied by quick flashes of the car’s light or distinct sound to show that locking or unlocking the door was successful. In some car models, there is also a red button that turns on the alarm when there is a theft attempt.
The key fobs take it a step further by adding extra features to the experience. Key fobs function similarly to remote keys because you to lock and unlock your door when close to your car. However, some key fobs don’t need to be brought out or pressed to unlock the car’s door.
In the recent car models, there is an integrated sensor button that picks up the radio frequency the key fob is emitting. Press the button with the fob near to you and the doors will automatically open. Also, some key fobs were programmed to start the engine before you get to your car. The major difference between remote keys and key fobs is that remote keys usually have a physical key attached while key fobs operate independently from the car key.
Now, this is the peak of auto keys. The design of a proximity key was to change the narrative of auto keys with enhanced features. They are one of the safest auto keys that offer both convenience and security. While proximity keys operate similarly to remote keys and key fobs, a proximity key can automatically unlock your car depending on your distance. You don’t have to bring your proximity key out from your bag or pocket nor do you have to interact with it. Some proximity keys offer the function of starting your car when you are close by.
